Found Mayberry Black and White
At an auction in Pigeon Forge, a Warrenton Virginia man purchased what is said to possibly be the Mayberry police car from the Andy Griffin Show. Its a 1964 Ford Galaxy 500. They are beauts of a car, and in the past I have owned one. Mine was a red convertible in mint condition nothing Andy or Barney would drive.
His brother drove the car back from Tennessee, and said people just rubbernecked when they saw him coming, including the state police. Although he is not quite sure if it was the actual car used in the series he is pleased and is going to try to authenticate the car's origin.
I am not quite sure that you could drive this car legally, even though no one could make the mistake that this is a present day police car. Perhaps one of our other contributors who is an ex-police officer could chime in and give his opinion. Everything in the car is original, it has police interceptor engine, siren that works, and even the red flashing light is the same as the original.
Ricky Brown, who bought the car, plans to use it in parades. He said he really got stares when he drove it to the local store.
The picture shown here is not from the original article, but from another auction of a similar car. Doing a google search for images there appears to be many Mayberry Police cars out there. You just have to appreciate that an imaginary town could have such as extensive police force.

"Technically", he could not operate it on the highways with the red light intact and functional unless he was a volunteer with a fire or rescue unit. However, I am sure there is some dispensation that he could get for an antique specialty vehicle.
IN MOST STATES " A LIGHT IS NOT A "LIGHT" UNLESS IT IS LITE"....THIS COULD BE OPERATED ON THE ROAD....ANY ATTEMPT AT TURNING ON THE LIGHT OR MAKING A TRAFFIC STOP COULD BE A BAD THING....LOL
I am looking for a "Mayberry" police car for our centennial parade. We are located in Northern California. Where is the car located?
