Comcast: "We Have Control Of Your TV Set"

Soon you will be seeing, this logo and advertisements in our area. A change is about to take place. And many questions exist about how this will affect cable service for Lynchburg. What are going to be the rates? Will customer service improve? When the change first came to light and adelphia was having its legal problems, and then bankruptcy problems. I did look into this.

To begin with I looked at other communities that had Comcast. I enrolled as someone who was interested in getting comcast just to find out what the rates would be. While I did this about six months ago, I was not surprised to find that the rates varied little from the current rates that adelphia was currently charging. Here is the cost of Comcast from another community.

When you look through the internet, you will find, that the complaints about Comcast were exactly similar to what communities have had with the adelphia provider. To me this was not a surprise. WSET ran a post today, that outlined the past problems customers had with adelphia, we believe that those problems are reflective of what customers can expect from Comcast.

By and far the biggest complaint against Comcast, was rate hiking, some communites we looked at said that comcast would raise rates three times the rate of inflation. Here is a past article about the performance of Comcast.

So in the long run what can we expect from Comcast, We predict more of the same, a virtual mirror of adelphia. There will be some minor changes, but on the whole your TV picture will not change. Yet we cannot help to draw the comparison to an old scifi television station that started their intro with "We have control of your TV set."

I had not heard that Comcast was taking over for Adelphia customers in the City of Lynchburg. Is that a certainty? Also, do they offer more channels than Adelphia? I would love to get one of the Richmond stations.

Thank you for your comment. The transfer to Comcast will occur in about 10 months or maybe a little bit longer. Yes, that is pretty much certain. As far as channel changes, there may be some. But on the whole things will not change at all.

I looked on Comcast's web-site, and it does look like they have a better line-up, at least for the gals....Oxygen, WE, Lifetime Movie Channel. I hope they take over Adelphia if that's the case, as those channels would be a welcomed change. :)

Thank you for your comment. We are sure their will be some channel changes, we will just have to see what happens. I would not look for a lot of changes until Comcast gets established. A change I would like to see is an offer of broad band phone service.

Comcast rates for basic service in Richmond is right at $50.00 a month. I believe that is a little higher than Adelphia. THere is a good selection of channels. The best one are on Digital Cable that has an upcharge.

One interesting note, Verizon is wiring Richmond for Broadband. Maybe Lynchburg could be next?

Thank you for your comment Ken, and the information. Most around here do not know what to expect when Comcast takes over, and your input is appreciated.
