Weekend Events: Get Out and Have Fun!

Montvale Bluegrass Festival.



The Montvale Recreation Club will present the second annual Montvale Fall Bluegrass Festival on Sept. 30 and October 1. This event held at the Montvale Community Center and Recreation Club, will feature Bluegrass bands from this region, including The Bluegrass Brothers and Poplar Hollow as well as other area bands. Admission to the festival is $6 per day for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Tickets are available only at the gate. Entertainment for children will be available. Fall Gallery Walk



The Bedford Arts Council and Bedford Main Street will sponsor an evening of fun with The Fall Gallery Walk in downtown Bedford on Sept. 30 from 7-10 p.m. Music will include "Terry Day" and special guest Jessica Johnson. Home Decor will be the theme with shop open, food specials and an invite to come dressed as Martha Steward for a "Martha Stewart Look Alike" contest in Centertown Park at 8 p.m. A clown will stroll the streets and there will be wine tasting from local wineries.

Second Chance Prom



What: When was the last time you dressed up and went out for a night of fun? Here is your second chance! Miriam’s House is starting a new tradition in Central Virginia by hosting the first annual Second Chance Prom at Cattle Annie’s. Guests will be treated to a flashback to those good ole’ days of High School in this FUNd-raiser whose proceeds will benefit the women and children living at Miriam’s House. Who: All ages (21+) are invited for a fun evening of music, dancing, fun and photos. Dress to impress: evening dress or your favorite prom related attire. Cost: Tickets are $40 per person, $75 for couple and include music from a popular band, dancing, 1 beverage per ticket and the opportunity to relive a time gone by with someone meaningful to you now. 3rd Annual Bedford Kiwanis Lobster Festival



Annual Bedford Kiwanis fundraiser to support Safe Haven at Raintree Village and other Bedford youth programs. Fresh Maine Lobster and all the fixins for only $20.00 per meal. Fall Fest



4 pm, $5-$10. Altavista Area Habitat for Humanity will host Fall Fest: A Day of Food, Fun, and Fiddlin at Riverfront Park in Altavista. Kid's games, barbecue dinner, and live bluegrass featuring Les Woodie and Dixie Blue and Lisa Vogel with Dave Wells will be featured. Call (434) 309-2688 for more info.



BBQ Festival



Central Virginia's finest barbecue cooks will be serving up their best for the fourth annual James River BBQ Festival to be held Saturday, Oct. 1, from noon to 11 pm at the Sedalia Center.



Walking Tour



A guided walking tour of Bedford, benefitting the Bedford Museum, will be held Saturday, Oct. 1. The rain dats is Oct. 22. The tour promises to echo headlines of the past to the present in Bedford. The tour begins at the Bedford City/County Museum at 5 p.m. and each 10 minutes thereafter. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and are on sale at the Museum Gift Shop, the Bedford Information Center and area businesses. Fall Festival



A Community Fall Festival and yard sale will be held Saturday, Oct 1 at Bedford Moose Lodge, Rt. 460 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The event will include hot dogs, barbecue, bake sale, balloon game, cake walk, and more. There will also be a drawing for Early American Style Bookcase.



Fall Treasures Sale



The Moneta Lions Club will have its fourth annual Fall Treasures sale from 8 am to noon. The location is at the Shoprite corner near the ATM. All net monies go back into the community through the Lions programs. Anyone wishing to donate good saleable items (no clothing), may call Lion Sarah at 540-296-1676.



Master Gardeners event



Bedford Area Master Gardeners will hold their fall Plant Sale/Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the parking lot of the old Bedford Christian Church, corner of N. Bridge St and Bedford Avenue, next to Bedford Public Library. A large collection of perennials, house plants, shrubs, as well as hosta and some rare hybrid daylilies, will be offered for sale. Master Gardners will be on hand to offer advice and answer garden questions.



Barbecue



A beef barbecue featuring beef, baked potato, pinto beans, coleslaw, rolls and dessert will be held at the Thaxton Youth and Community Center on Oct. 1, 4:30-7 pm. Cost: adults, $7; children, $4. Carry-out is available. Door prizes will be offered.



Sale



A yard sale and hot dog sale, sponsored by the Women's Ministries of Christian Life Ministries Church, 721 Blue Ridge Ave., Bedford. Will be held Oct 1 beginning at 8 am.



October 2, 2005



Awareness Garden Golf Classic 2005



Captain's Choice format held at London Down's Golf Club. Shotgun start at 1:30pm. Entry fee is $360 per team. Grand prizes include a weekend at The Greenbrier and Ping golf equipment. For more information, call Sue Thornton at (434)384-5299 or visit www.awarenessgarden.com.
