Global Warming: NASA Talks Without Restraint

The Independent Online is reporting:

“A satellite study of the Greenland ice cap shows that it is melting far faster than scientists had feared - twice as much ice is going into the sea as it was five years ago. The implications for rising sea levels - and climate change - could be dramatic.”

What is also disturbing is that the U.S. government appointees at NASA tried to keep this report from becoming public. But a NASA scientist refused to obey the instructions and now the information is public.

The Washington Post is reporting:

“The ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are among the largest reservoirs of fresh water on Earth, and their fate is expected to be a major factor in determining how much the oceans will rise. Rignot and University of Kansas scientist Pannir Kanagaratnam, who published their findings yesterday in the journal Science, declined to guess how much the faster melting would raise sea levels but said current estimates of around 20 inches over the next century are probably too low.”

In the Washington Post article, they reported that what this means to us more immediately, we are likely to see larger storm surges. We wonder if this will mean more storms on the scale of Katrinia?

The Orlando Sentinel reported Feb 9th 2006:

“George C. Deutsch, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told public-affairs workers to limit reporters' access to a top climate scientist and told a Web designer to add the word "theory" at every mention of the Big Bang, resigned late Tuesday, agency officials said.”

It was also discovered that George Deutsch had altered his résumé to gain the appointment. He was the one who primarily restricted scientists at NASA in reports on global warming.
George Deutsch claimed to have graduated from Texas A&M University.

The story broke when the blog, The Scientific Activist, first discovered that George Deutsch had never graduated.

The fact that global warming is happening cannot be denied. Some attribute it to green house gas emissions; others report that this is happening due to other reasons. Some deny the reality of the situation entirely.
