Rolling Thunder to Visit D-day Memorial

On Saturday, Sept. 17, Rolling Thunder will roll onto the property of the National D-Day Memorial for a moving event entitled "Never Forget." The formal ceremony is set up to begin at 1 p.m. in the middle plaza.

The program will include remarks by U.S. Congressman Virgil Goode and Bedford mayor Tom Messier. The Jefferson Forest High School band will also perform.

This is the third year that Rolling Thunder has visited Bedford. It's quite a visual event with hundreds of motorcycles, most with American and POW/MIA flags flying, arriving at the Memorial. And the loud rumbling of the motorcycle engines is quite a contrast to the silence that soon falls on the Memorial as the participants gather for a tribute to those lost in war.

As seating at the Memorial is limited, folks areencouraged to bring lawn chairs for the ceremony. No food or beverage will be allowed in the plaza. Regular admission fees of $5 for adults and $3 for childfren 6-16 will apply. Children under 6 are free.

For more information, call the National D-Day Memorial Foundation office at 540-586-3329.
