Residents of Chesterfield: Post Flyers of Registered Sex Offenders
Reported by Channel 8 Richmond:
In a controversial move some residents in Chesterfield have posted flyers of sex offenders in their neighborhoods.
The information was taken from the State Police registry. The State Police report that no laws were broken by this act. However, they also stated that you may be subject by a harassment charge if the subject complains.
"If the person is guilty and it looks like that's the case here, you forfeit your right. So too bad for his privacy," said a local resident.
You can access the Sex offender registry for Virginia, in the link section on the right.

Jesus H. Spamalot!
Do you have to put your link in everything that you put your inane comments on over at WSET's website?
Thank you for your comment. I am sure many would appreciate your point of view, while others may not.
People really need to get the facts on the conviction before posting flyers. I know 1 person that has to register and is shown as a pedophile. He just turned 18, his girlfriend was almost 17. Her parents pushed it and he was convicted of a sex crime because of 1 year or so in age difference. No all are dirt, some are victims of over zealous prosecutors looking to improve their numbers. I am all for the flyers, but get the facts before you label someone.
You are so right about people needing to get the facts straight. People are so ignorant that they think anyone on the registry is a pedofhile. It is interesting when you really get into the nitty-gritty that you find sex offenders have an "age of preference" Some are pdophiles, some like pre-pubescence, some like teens, young adults, and even elderly. There seems to be a pattern in them.
Think about all the predators that never see the inside of a court room,,,,, ones we believe to be upstanding citizens, drs. ,lawyers, softball coaches, preachers,,,,etc. Then think about all the guys that truly are innocent and got rail-roaded at their trials. There are innocent men behind bars you know,,, the results of poor legal representation.
Then their are those on the registry who committ heinious crimes against women,, beat them up,, but not sexual in nature. How about the charge "ABDUCTION WITH INTENT TO DEFILE" How can someone say that is sexual in nature?
Thanks for your comments. I think you are pointing out some very important qualities, that we should all have, the need for more understanding. Sometimes things are not always what they seem. Before someone decides to post flyers they should be absolutely sure if they are performing a service to their neighbors, or hurting someone who may not deserve the label that the court system placed on them.
