Mayor Hutcherson Trial: The Defense Rest, Closing Statements Today

I would like to point you to stories in the local media about the trial of Mayor Hutcherson. One is from WSET and the other is from The News and Advance.

Once I read both accounts I wondered if they were at the same trial. What do you think?

And yet a third account.

Your N&A link was already dead so the immediacy of the comparison was lost. But taking a look at the difference between how local events are covered by the various local media would be a fascinating glimpse of our local scene. Of course, people who have been here a while think they already know the difference, I guess. Your comment "Once I read both accounts I wondered if they were at the same trial. What do you think?" is a good indicator of that. And, yes, I do hear you trying not to give your point of view. Yes, the coverage between local TV and local newspaper is different. But what does this mean? (And what would a scientific approach be to study and quantify that difference?)

When you don't come right out and give your point of view, does that mean you think you have taken any bias out of your presentation? Asking slanted questions is a classic in propaganda, I think. We all know by now that the answers to polls can be quite different depending on how you ask the question.

You sure do raise some interesting issues. What if you stuck with one for a while and followed it through instead of jumping from item to item to item to item? The "idea of the day" concept is not the best way to learn -- unless, of course, you think all the ideas are linked and make some overarching point that we all will eventually get.

Thanks for the comment Larry, and I will try and fix the link. This is a constant problem with the News and Advance they change URLs alot.

I will try to address some of your other thoughts later.

Thanks again
