Panda Rent Too High!
Did you know that American Zoos pay rent to China for Panda Bears? One million dollars a year to be exact!!! And if we manage to get a pair of pandas to mate and successfully have a baby panda, we have to pay an extra $600,000 for a one time 'baby tax.' Combined with that is the fact that Pandas are expensive critters to maintain. They only eat bamboo and even then, they only eat certain parts of the bamboo at certain stages of growth.
But the cute, cuddly critters are quite a draw to zoo visitors. However, zoos are having to decide if their draw is enough to keep paying the high rent. Some zoos say 'no.' and are currently trying to renegotiate with China.
