Virginia General Assembly: Fireworks This Session

The Virginia General Assembly reconvenes January 11th. Looking at this article it appears there will be some hot button issues up for consideration.

Here are some of the issues the General Assembly may be tackling:

1. Gay Marriage. Last year the legislature defined marriage as a union between a man and a women. This State Constitutional Amendment needs to be approved again to find its way on a November referendum.

2. Inside the state budget request by Governor Warner is a ban of discrimination against homosexuals for state hiring. This also appears to be an issue that will be debated.

3. Abortion clinic issues debates are also in the offering. Apparently, abortion clinics have a lower standard of requirements than out patient clinics, this may soon change.

4. Mandating anesthesia for the fetus when a woman has an abortion, could be another issue the General Assembly will be taking up.

5. Issues on questions that can be asked of children at school, appears to be another issue that will be presented to the General Assembly. There may be reigns put on concerning questions on sexual activity, information on parents, and other personal issues.

6. Another hot button issue may find its way to the General Assembly is filtering software for libraries to prevent access to obscene content.

With even part of this agenda being brought forward to the General Assembly, by July 4th we are sure the fireworks of public opinions will be lighting the horizon from the local media to the Churches.

Very, not all these issues will make it most likely. But some will expect to see a lot of news coverage of these events.
