IIlegal DVDS: Being Sold At the Fort Hill Flea Market

On a weekend day, almost any weekend day. You will see a couple of vendors selling DVDs. Amazingly some of these movies have not yet been released legitimately yet. The asking price is only five bucks. Sometimes cheaper.

But what are you getting here? Many, if not all of these DVDs were recorded with a video camera in the movie theaters. Not only is the selling of these DVD's illegal but the method they are being done, with a camera in the theater is also against Virginia law. You can just imagine the poor quality DVD you are getting. If you buy one.

Last winter the Lynchburg Police closed this DVD operation down. And the management of the Fort Hill Flea Market has done what they could to stop the selling of the DVDs. But the vendors are back now, openly in defiance of the law.

Personally, I hope that the LPD does go out there and make arrests. Not only are they selling illegal DVD's, they are selling you something that is generally of such poor quality that they are defrauding you.

It is nice to see that the operators of the Flea Market have the integrity to try do something. However, I have to wonder how much they are really trying to do if they are back as the article said. It should just be a matter of the operators asking them to leave. At that point the sellers must leave or would becomes a trespassing issue.

Thank you for your comment Michael. One thing that I noticed is that the operators of the booth at the flea market, stay at the booth. They may not truely know what is going on. Additionally, they are elderly. I took this in consideration when I decided to point out the policy, and not the failings of the managers of the flea market.

I originally watched when the vendors were stopped by the police. This photo was taken either at the date of the post, or shortly after. And indeed they were selling illegal DVD's.
