Town Meeting Takes Jim Moran by Surprise
Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) was disarmed for claiming that morale has reached new low levels in the war in Iraq when he did a town meeting on the war in Iraq. He got a reaction he did not expect, when a wounded vet stood up and made this statement.
"I know you keep saying how you have talked to the troops and the troops are demoralized, and I really resent that characterization. The morale of the troops I talk to is phenomenal, which is why my troops are volunteering to go back despite the hardships. . . ."
"And, Congressman Moran, 200 of your constituents just arrived back from Afghanistan -- we never got a letter, we never got a visit from you, you didn't come to our homecoming. The only thing we got was a letter from the governor of this state thanking us for our service in Iraq, when we were in Afghanistan. That's reprehensible. I don't know who you two are talking to, but the morale of the troops is very high."
Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) responded to this by saying that the wounded veteran made a statement and did not ask a question.
Yes, he did make quite a statement, that went unanswered.

Obviously, this is all just a big media conspiracy to cover up how everything in Iraq is going peachy keen right now.
Just because 72% of the troops want to pull out within the year (and 25% want an immediate pull out), that doesn't mean it isn't all one big lie. The media is in on the conspiracy. 42% think our role is hazy? Conspiracy. Only 23% think we should stay "as long as needed?" More conspircy.

Thanks for the comment I did notice how you left out that 58 percent of the troops in Iraq considered their mission clear.
And that: "Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks."
Or did your "foil hat" prevent you from letting those items out.
As a former marine and Iraq war supporter, I find Joe's comments very interesting. If taken to the logical extreme, we really should not have an army at all, because they might get hurt.
As Joe knows, the old man makes the call and the grunts go and fight. This is the way it always has been, and the way it's always going to be. Old men like us sit around deciding when to use force, and the kids go and apply it.
I am concerned that "peace at any cost" is the message I hear from some people. If your enemies are coming for you, you can only hide for so long.
Having said that, I can understand that people want life to return to pre-9/11. It's also comforting to think that somehow a bad president or foreign policy caused all of our problems -- as if somehow we were the center of the universe.
Nobody likes to use force. Nobody in their right mind wants war. But that's not the end of the story. There are times when it is appropriate. Now some people can yell and holler all they want about poor civilian leadership, but the system that made these choices is what is to be respected if not the choices themselves. The president still gets to make the call. So when Moran and the "grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory" Murtha and his ilk pound on the administration, they can go jump in a lake for all I care.
