Bedford County Special Ops Team goes to Louisiana

The Bedford County Special Operations Team has been selected by FEMA to deploy to Louisiana as a light duty search and rescue task force. Twenty SOC members were scheduled to deploy this week to Louisiana, according to the Bedford County Fire Department Web site.

Team composition was to include a task force director, a task force leader, specialists in the fields of search, collapse, logistics, communications, boat operations, as well as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and paramedic who will make up the medical sector of the team.

The team will be self-sufficient with items such as a shelter that sleeps 24, extra fuel for vehicles and generators, MRES, search cameras, medical supplies and the team's two motorized Zodiac boats.
